It seems like just yesterday I was packing and re-packing my bags that began my journey to South Africa, nervously wondering if I was making the right decision, if I could bare missing my loved ones, and could I actually stick it out. To say that I have these answers now would be a lie, but one thing is certain, I have found more people to love in this world. My new community has opened it’s arms to me and have made me feel so welcome. They school me, protect me, disappoint me at times, amaze me, enlighten me, but most importantly, they have shown me a generosity of heart. They have very little materialistically speaking, but they give freely of what they do have. The word Ubuntu is often translated as “I am because we are,” and also “humanity towards others”, but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity”.
The children of South Africa have touched me beyond words so here is a little video I made about them. Charlie, Zoe, and Ellie, I love and miss you with all my heart.
